Learning Outcome #4 Peer Review:

For my peer review, I chose our first peer review partner. I found that his paper did follow the assignment, but there were a few weaknesses. During the conversation portion of the peer review, I politely pointed out what those weaknesses were, as well as giving him a few examples on how to make his paper better. His first weakness I found was that he had very long body paragraphs, that felt like a lot to read. In his paper I put comments where I thought he could break up the paragraphs to make it a little easier for the reader. I also found that he had a lot of run on sentences. I also added comments where I found the sentences and I gave him a couple examples of how he can split them up. I also gave him a few different sentence examples when we talked about it, if he needed more help. An example I gave him was to use a semi colon to break up some of the sentences. He seemed to reciprocate the help I gave him.

A good thing I thought my partner did was adding a lot of quotes into his body paragraphs. He also did a good job following up the quotes with evidence and analysis. Almost all his body paragraphs were good and had good ideas for them. The only body paragraph I found a problem with was his second to last one where he talked about cosmopolitanism. This is a weird concept in the first place, but I had a hard time following his idea path. I told him this, and he explained it out to me, and we both worked together to try to come up with a better way to phrase a few things. At the end of our peer review session, I think that I have him a lot of good ways to make his paper better.

Overall, I think my partner did a good job. To come full circle, I just made sure to tell him to go through his paper and make sure there aren’t any run on sentences. I told him that if he was having trouble trying to figure out if the sentence was a run on to read it to himself out loud. I think that it’s the easiest way to figure out if you need to shorten your sentences or not. I also told him to just clear up his thesis and try to connect it to his body paragraphs more. I think that peer reviews are really good, because you get a new set of eyes to read it. I believe that it was very helpful to have peer review sessions for everyone.
